Rolling Stone magazine ranked the song #290 in their list, The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, making it one of only three songs to be released since 2000 to appear on the list. As a result of the song, the term “Stan” is often used within various fan communities, not limited to musical, to derisively refer to people seen as overly-obsessed fans of someone or something.
